Abstract:
Researchers describe changes in drinking behavior and alcohol-related problems from before traumatic brain injury (TBI) to 1 year after injury. Structured interviews were conducted to determine participants' quantity and frequency of alcohol consumption and their symptoms of alcohol problems. Results showed that while heavy drinking and alcohol-related problems decreased significantly from preinjury to 1 year postinjury, preinjury alcohol use and problems are good predictors of heavy use and problems after TBI.
