Abstract:
Article examines issues involved in implementing an individualized functional vocational assessment for people with spinal cord injury (SCI). A vocational assessment can help clarify future vocational direction for people with SCI; a functional assessment can assist them with examining their current skills, abilities, and support needs and relate this to potential career paths. Three types of individualized assessment approaches are reviewed: return to work, residual skills, and career exploration. Each is designed to empower individuals with SCI to take control of the vocational assessment process.
