Abstract:
Study evaluated the effects of a simple dietary intervention on the lipid profiles of individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). Initial and follow-up lipid profiles were collected on 222 subjects with SCI as part of their annual routine evaluations. Subjects with total cholesterol greater than 200 mg/dL were referred for dietary consultation; the remainder of subjects served as the controls. Results showed that at follow-up, the intervention group demonstrated declines in total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, whereas the control demonstrated significant increases in total cholesterol. There were no significant changes in high-density cholesterol for either group.
