Abstract:
Article introduces a series of articles describing the state of the science in the fields of spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and burn injury. An evidence-based approach was used to review scientific articles published between 1999 and 2004 relating to the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and burn injury. Most of the research that has been done yielded class II, III, or IV evidence for efficacy, indicating a significant risk for bias. A summary of the findings is presented for each topic, including areas in need of further research.
