Abstract:
Article describes interventions currently used to improve functional abilities after spinal cord injury (SCI), including functional electrical stimulation, tendon transfers, body weight support training, cushion design and pressure mapping, advances in wheelchair technology, and techniques for shoulder pain. These rehabilitation techniques and equipment are being applied to functional deficits of the bladder, bowel, upper and lower extremities, and respiratory system, as well as to improvements in walking and mobility.
