Abstract:
Article addresses health care issues relevant to individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) or other disabilities, including the rising cost of health care and health insurance, state budget crises and their impact on Medicaid spending, and the need for a Medicare prescription drug program. Other issues important to people with disabilities and health care providers are implementation of Medicare's prospective payment system for inpatient rehabilitation, the reauthorization of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the proposed New Freedom Initiative.
