Abstract:
Article discusses 4 broad assumptions concerning behavioral science that rehabilitation psychology shares with other applied branches of psychology. These are: (1) rehabilitation psychology research is science, (2) rehabilitation psychology research is part of a larger effort to understand human behavior, (3) practice grounded in rehabilitation psychology research is designed to alleviate human suffering and promote well-being, and (4) all scientific tools are acceptable in these quests. A model including these propositions is presented and gaps in the current knowledge base are outlined.
