The goal of this project is to develop, validate and pilot the clinical use of a novel portable device for telecare of persons with SCI. The proposed technology leverages wearable technology to monitor maneuvers for pressure relief and pressure ulcer (PU) prevention and upper extremity activity levels. The proposed technology can provide a unique means for persons with SCI to collaborate with their clinicians to promote healthy lifestyle choices throughout the lifespan, and a reliable and robust tool for preventing secondary complications for those with SCI. Another anticipated benefit is a decrease in health-care costs with optimized utilization of resources.
