The Burn Injury Rehabilitation Model Systems of Care (Burn Model Systems), funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR), Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, U.S. Department of Education, is the newest of the Model Systems programs, begun in 1994. The Burn Model Systems program supports projects and research in the delivery, demonstration, and evaluation of comprehensive, multidisciplinary rehabilitation services for individuals with severe burns.
The Burn Model Systems Centers serve as national models of burn care services and information centers for patients, families and professionals.
Grants are awarded in five-year cycles. The current 2007-2012 cycle consists of 4 Burn Model System Centers and a Burn Model Systems Data Center.
